Lars Houmann is chief operating officer for Adventist Health System, having previously held the position of executive vice president and president/CEO of the Florida Division. Houmann originally joined Florida Hospital in 1993 and served as its CEO from 2006-2015. During that time, he oversaw several major expansion projects, including the development and launch of Florida Hospital Celebration Health, a state-of-the-future health care facility that opened in 1998 in the Walt Disney Company's community of Celebration. He also led Adventist Health System's merger with University Community Healthcare in Tampa in 2010, which added four hospitals to the Florida Division. In the course of his career, Houmann has served at hospitals small and large, for-profit and not-for-profit, in Massachusetts, California, Arizona, and Florida.
He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Columbia Union College, a Master of Healthcare Administration from Loma Linda University, and an honorary Doctor of Health Administration from northern Caribbean University Jamaica. As a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, he is board certified in health care administration.
Houmann is actively involved in healthcare advocacy and economic development, serving on the boards of the Florida Chamber, Orlando Economic Development Commission, and the Florida Hospital Association. He is dedicated to integrating health care into the fabric of local economies, and his leadership has been instrumental in expanding the life sciences sector of the Central Florida economy. He is also active in his community through volunteer involvement and support of organizations such as the American Heart Association, Shepherd's Hope Clinics, American Diabetes Association, United Global Outreach, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
